Shine Shine Teru

Explore the utopian land of Atlas, up in the clouds and away from all the horrors beneath it.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Shine Shine Teru is an adventure horror game I developed for a brief duration as I studied the making of stylized 3D objects.

The game has a cozy appearance which occasionally turns dark and gritty.

NARRATIVE

A species of cloth-like people living in the clouds each share a collective responsibility of maintaining the weather.

This is done through an annual sacrafice though to them it's an honor like no other.

The game focuses on the character of "Teru", who falls from the clouds and learns the truth of the world below.

DEVELOPMENT CHALLENGES

Physics

Making the physics feel consistent in a top-down perspective proved to be troublesome. Collision shapes, movement friction, knockback, and object interactions work differently when alternating camera angles.

Character Design

Designing and animating characters from concept to reality required a lot of back and fourth planning, especially when the characters aren't human.

Environment

Trying to juggle both peaceful and horror style mood lighting is a constant tug of war. Too much light kills tension, but too little makes navigation frustrating.
